Comments on the footnote (f) of Table 5: I think that radiation-induced visual impartment depends on the location of cataract; thresholds should be the same for any lens opacities. Comments on Section 8.3: Cosmic rays I do not agree that the average annual effective doses to most aircrew are in a narrow range around 3mSv; this situation would be true for selected countries on the Northern Hemisphere only. Also, this part seems to be contradictory to the statements on optimization of protection in Section 7.2, in which the Commission recommends the maintenance of the distribution of individual doses related to a given source in components reflecting the characteristics of the exposed individuals and the time and space distributions of exposures. I think it is important also for aircrew to keep the distribution of individual doses classified by key elements such as gender and age.
